Russell Tovey as werewolf George and Lenora Crichlow as ghost Annie return for season four of Being Human, due to start on BBC Three on Sunday 5 February 2012, but there is no vampire Mitchell, after being staked at the end of season three, and werewolf Nina is absent without leave, leaving George literally holding the baby. And with Russell Tovey announcing that this eight-part series will be his last, viewers will have to start getting used to some new characters, starting with vampire Hal (played by Damien Molony). Werewolf Tom (played by Michael Socha) finds himself switched from an occasional guest into one of the leads.
Also back will be Craig Roberts as teenage vampire Adam, who had a successful one-off special Becoming Human last year. Joining the cast will be Ellie Kendrick as werewolf Allison. And Mark Gatiss will become a major factor later in the series as Mr Snow. The characters have left Bristol, where season three was set, and returned to their old home in Barry Island, south Wales.
Who’s New in Being Human Season Four
Damien Molony is not long out of drama school and most of his work so far has been on stage, notably in ’Tis Pity She’s a Whore at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Travelling Light at the National Theatre. Being Human is his first breakthrough into television.
Ellie Kendrick was nominated for a Satellite Award for the lead role in 2009’s The Diary of Anne Frank. She has also become known for playing Ivy Morris in Upstairs Downstairs.
Mark Gatiss has written and appeared in episodes of Doctor Who. He is also one of the more unknown actors who have played the Doctor, albeit in the 1999 BBC spoof “Web of Caves”. He received a Bafta for his work on Sherlock, as a writer and actor, playing Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes. He became known as one of The League of Gentlemen. Other roles have included Glen Bulb in Nighty Night, Ambrose Chapfel in Funland, Colonel Black in Clone, the curator in Crooked House, Cavor in The First Men in the Moon and Harry Rackham Junior in The Crimson Petal and the White.
Also look out for Alex Jenning as vampire leader Griffin, Mark Williams as the vampire’s librarian Regus and Andrew Gower as vampire Cutler. Other guest appearances include James Lance, Amanda Abbingdon and Selina Griffiths.
